The Big Bud 747 has returned to Independence, Iowa at the Heartland Acres Agribition Center and will remain there through 2011 for all to enjoy. It will be taking a few side trips out of there this summer. Those dates will be announced later. The hours at Independence are 9 AM to 4:30 PM Monday - Saturday and Noon to 4:30 on Sunday. Take advantage of the opportunity to see this awesome tractor!

Big Bud produced 19 different models and over 500 tractors between 1969 and
1991. The Big Bud 740 was the 2nd largest tractor produced by Big Bud.
The company produced the world largest tractor in the world in 1977 with the
introduction of the Big Bud 16V-747 with a peak horse power of 1100.
The Big Bud 740 was introduced in 1986 as the top model in the new Series IV
line up which included a 300 hp, 400 hp, and 500 hp class tractor. Two
Big Bud 740's were produced. The first 700 hp class Series IV tractor
was ordered by Jim Satori, a farmer in Florida. Satori Farms was also
the 2nd owner of the Big Bud 16V-747. For a time the worlds largest
and second largest tractor worked together in the same fields. The
Satori Big Bud 740 was ordered with monster sized 35.5 x 32 duals.
The 2nd Big Bud 740 was ordered in 1989 by a hutterite colony in Oregon.
This 700 hp class tractor was ordered with 20.8 x 42 R1 triple tires. The Big Bud 740 weighs in at 75,000 lbs. and is a true monster of the field standing 13 ft. tall, nearly 28 ft. long and just under 14 ft. wide. Fitted with a 700 gallon fuel tank and powered by a 1413 cu. in. 23.15 liter engine, the Big Bud 740 cranks out 739 hp. to tackle the biggest farm jobs in the world. With a beak horse power of 1,000, the Big Bud 740 can cover a lot of ground in a day. Servicing is easy with a tilt up hood and tilt back cab. Extra large 35.5 x 32 dual tire or 20.8 x 42 R1 triple tire options help move it through the field with east. There are several differences in the 2 versions of the 740. The 1986 with duals has 35.5 x 32 duals, early style Series IV cursive Big Bud decal in red, 1 air cleaner mounted on a filter box, only 1 access ladder on the driver's side of the tractor, engine mounted muffler, and silver engine. The 1989 with triples has 20.8 x 42 R1 triples, late series IV silver Big Bud decal with Power Shift logo, dual air cleaners on both sides of cab, access ladders on both sides of tractor, cab side mounted muffler, yellow engine, and cab mounted flood lights. Today, both of the 740's are owned by Don Collins of Bakersfield, California. The monster 740's work with 4 other Big Buds on a 20,000 cow dairy farm. Don Collins grew up near the Rossi Brothers 10,000 acre cotton farm in Bakersfield. The Rossi Brothers were the original owners of the Big Bud 16V-747. Don had the chance to drive the 16V-747 many times and when entered farming himself he knew Big Bud 4WD's were the machines he needed. Don Collins' fleet of 4WDs include 2 Big Bud 740's, 2 Big Bud 650/50's, a Big Bud 525/50 and a Big Bud 400/30. |
